Apple Watch Series 12 Unveils AI Audio Intelligence for Conversation Recall

Apple has introduced significant artificial intelligence enhancements to its latest wearable, the Apple Watch Series 12, and the Ultra 4 model. These new features, collectively termed "Audio Intelligence," aim to assist users in recalling and summarizing spoken information from their daily lives. Key functionalities include Sound Recognition, a "Live Rewind" feature that captures the last 15 seconds of audio as a text snippet, and "Siri Recap" for generating high-level summaries of conversations.

Apple emphasizes that all raw audio processing for these features occurs securely on the device's S11 chip and is immediately deleted, prioritizing user privacy. The "Live Rewind" and "Siri Recap" functionalities are opt-in beta features scheduled for release later this year. They require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 16 or later and will not be available in the European Union at launch. While the company assures that audio is not stored and speakers are not identified, "Live Rewind" includes a full-screen indicator and an audible chime when active, ensuring user awareness.
