Avalanche Kick Off Season at Home; Edvinsson Remains Absent from Red Wings

The Colorado Avalanche are set to begin their 2026-27 NHL season tonight, hosting the Los Angeles Kings at Ball Arena. This opening night matchup marks the start of what is anticipated to be a competitive year for the Avalanche, who are considered among the Stanley Cup favorites.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Red Wings are navigating the absence of defenseman Simon Edvinsson. The restricted free agent has returned to his native Sweden and is currently skating with a local team in Gothenburg, as contract negotiations continue. His status for the upcoming season remains uncertain, adding a layer of concern for the Red Wings' blue line.
