Protected Plover Becomes Unlikely '12th Man' on Tasmanian Cricket Ground

A masked lapwing, a protected bird species, has become an unexpected fixture at Windsor Park oval in Riverside, Tasmania, taking up residence in the middle of the community sports ground. The bird is currently warming a nest of eggs, demonstrating a remarkable indifference to the weekend cricket matches being played around its chosen spot.

Locals have affectionately nicknamed the plover "Faf Swoop Plessis," a playful nod to former South African cricket captain Faf du Plessis. Despite the bird's species being known for swooping behavior during nesting season, this particular plover has shown no aggression, instead becoming a curious point of interest for those attending the games.
