Tesla is broadening the availability of its "Powershare Home Backup" feature, allowing owners of Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles to use their car's battery as a backup power source during outages. This functionality was previously exclusive to the Cybertruck.
The expansion requires owners to also possess a Tesla Powerwall battery system, with support now extended to both the Powerwall 2 and the newer Powerwall 3. This integration aims to provide greater energy resilience for homeowners, leveraging the vehicle's battery capacity to maintain essential power when the grid is down.
