The Taiwanese project "Uncle," directed by Yen Hao-hsuan, secured the prestigious Tokyo Project Award at the seventh Tokyo Gap-Financing Market (TGFM) on Friday. This marks a significant international recognition for the emerging filmmaker, whose debut feature had previously earned the Asian Gen-Z Award earlier in the ceremony.
The TGFM, part of the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, aims to foster international co-productions and support promising film projects. This year's market featured 24 selected projects, with "Uncle" emerging as a standout winner. The festival has been a platform for highlighting global cinematic talent and discussing the future of the film industry, with recent events underscoring the growing international reach of East Asian cinema and the importance of industry support initiatives.
