Football Regulator Has Power to Force Manchester City Sale

The Independent Football Regulator (IFR) possesses the "absolute power" to compel Manchester City's owners to divest their stake if they are ultimately found to have mismanaged the club. This assertion comes from the watchdog's chair, David Kogan, who stated that the IFR can "ask an owner to step away from a club if we believe that they run a club in a way that is neither fit, fair or done with propriety."

This development follows an independent commission's ruling that Manchester City circumvented Premier League rules through "sham" commercial arrangements, inflating revenues or reducing costs by over £900 million across nine seasons. While the club has appealed these charges, the IFR's stance indicates a significant potential consequence should the verdict be upheld.
