Ovechkin Defends Pro-Putin Video Appearance, Citing National Support

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has publicly defended his recent appearance in a campaign video for United Russia, stating that he "supports my country." The veteran forward, who recently celebrated his 41st birthday and is preparing for his 22nd NHL season, appeared in the promotional material for the political party.

Ovechkin's participation in the video has drawn attention and raised questions given the current geopolitical climate. His statement emphasizes a personal connection to his homeland and a desire to express solidarity, regardless of external political contexts. The NHL has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the player's involvement in the political campaign video.
