Americans are heading to the polls today for the 2026 midterm elections, a vote widely viewed as a referendum on President Donald Trump's second term and a crucial indicator of voter priorities heading into the 2028 presidential election. The outcome will determine the balance of power in Congress and significantly shape the scope of Trump's influence in his remaining years in office.
Historically, the party holding the White House tends to lose congressional seats during midterm elections. This year's races are expected to be broadly influenced by affordability issues, though various topics impacting the tech industry are also playing a role. The elections are seen as a critical test for the future of Congress and could signal shifts in the political landscape.
