Laura Brand, wife of comedian Russell Brand, took the stand on Thursday during his rape and sexual assault trial, describing him as an "amazing husband" and "kind and a wonderful father." Her testimony comes as the defense began presenting its case, following Brand's own statements that he has been unable to secure any character witnesses.
Earlier in the week, Brand testified that he had "misused" his fame to "facilitate" sexual activity and admitted to a "very promiscuous" life, though he maintained that consensual encounters were later "unfavourably reframed." He also stated that his "entire life has been consumed by these allegations" and that no one would "touch me with a bargepole." A judge also dismissed one indecent assault charge, replacing it with a count of attempted indecent assault due to insufficient evidence.
Brand denies all charges of rape and sexual assault. The trial continues with further testimony from witnesses called by the defense.
